Jin Ling needs to not be alone right now. He’d been struggling to cope with everything he’d learned in the Guanyin temple, but at least he had the comfort of knowing that Jin Guangyao was ended. It was all over.
He’d been warned that the dead could return in this place. But he hadn’t expected Jin Guangyao.
Last they’d seen each other, his uncle had almost killed him and had tried to take him hostage. And that was only a footnote on his list of atrocities. Jin Ling knew that he absolutely would kill to keep his secrets, and Jin Ling wasn’t going to risk being alone with him.
Wei Wuxian and Hanguang-Jun regarded Jin Ling as little more than a stranger, but Sizhui had treated him no differently. So when he fled, he went to Sizhui.
Still disheveled, with his hair loose and messy around his shoulders, Jin Ling pounded on the door. “Sizhui! Sizhui!”
It was late at night. Sizhui isn't asleep yet as he was studying how his communicator works, reads pamphlets, brochures, and books containing history and facts about this world. There are some days he isn't accustomed to sleep on time at 9pm, which is the usual curfew and routine by the lan clan. Since he lives alone at least for now, Sizhui discovers he can sleep whenever he wants and wakes up whenever he wants! No 3,000 rules restrictions.
The door banged so loudly that Sizhui got up and rushed to see who it is, and when he opens the door, he sees his fellow disheveled junior.
"Jin Ling? What's going on?" And immediately welcomes him inside his home, where it's warm, roomy, and vacant, as Sizhui is luckily with no roommates. "Come inside, you must exhausted. I'll make tea."
Jin Ling tumbles in immediately, with Fairy at his heels. He quickly shuts
and locks the door, and then starts to check the windows to make sure
they’re locked. “It’s Jin Guangyao. He’s here. He’s alive. He’s missing his
arm after Hanguang-Jun cut it off him and I think he’s going to try to kill
me.”
Jin Ling makes another paranoid circuit of the home, then finally settles
down enough to curl up in a chair. Sizhui will know what to do. Jin
Guangyao won’t be able to get him if they’re together.
Once inside, he found Jin Ling closed the door and the locks the door for him. Then Jin Ling is running around in his apartment, checking the windows which they are indeed locked. He looks scared and terrified that Sizhui is worried for him in his nervous state. Tea will help hopefully.
Thankfully, its a sofa chair, so it's comfy enough to curled up on and Fairy is welcomed to hop on and curled up with. "Jin Ling? Are you...are you okay? Rest here. Let me get some tea and something to eat."
Sizhui goes to the kitchen to fix up snacks and refreshments. "Jin Guangyao...isn't he your sect leader? Why does he wanted to kill you?"
"He admitted to planning the death of my father. Because of events he set into motion, he killed my mother. He admitted to killing his father, his wife, his son, his sworn brother Nie Mingjue."
Jin Ling takes a deep breath. He tries to start at the beginning. "Senior Wei and Hanguang-Jun were pursuing this resentful spirit, they had the arm from Mo Village or something, and then they found the leg at the Man-Eating castle, and it was Nie Mingjue, because someone had cut him to pieces and separated the parts because he was filled with so much resentful energy, and Jin Guangyao had kept his head, and anyway the point is that Jin Guanyao was behind it all and he framed Wei Wuxian and he kills people who know too much and now that's me, because you and Hanguang-Jun and Senior Wei don't know anything and now he's here and he knows I know..."
[It's quiet time in the evening. Jin Ling can be hard to calm down. Sizhui was doing some independent study at his desk when there's a knock at the door.
He got up, see who it was, and opens the door. He looks surprised, his expression softens.]
Hanguang-Jun...? You shouldn't have. You could have it delivered instead.
[ His expression has similarly softened. He may not say as much, most of the time, but Sizhui knows him well enough to read that he probably just wanted the excuse to come check on him, too. ]
[Sizhui doesn't question the occasion or what it's about. He's obedient to his father and simply accepts. To open package, that can come later.
With a nod, he opens the door wider and lets him in.]
Of course. Come on in. If you like to rest, take a seat. I'll go make tea if you like.
[The apartment is neat and tidy. Might smell a bit like dog since Fairy took residence also. Sofa doesn't have much dog hair, but it's Fairy's favorite resting place as a bed instead of the bed on the floor that is designated for her.]
[ He agrees to the tea, stepping in to take a seat as it was offered, crossing his legs and sitting as elegantly and perfectly as ever. He casts a glance over the apartment as Sizhui makes tea, satisfied that the boy is living well and properly.
Once Sizhui joins him again, he waits until the tea is poured before presenting him with the box.
Inside lays a beautifully molded white chocolate rabbit. ]
[Sizhui was already up bright and early. Breakfast is already eaten. There's already coffee (this time instead of tea) being served on the table. Sizhui observed the white rabbit with delight and placed the rabbit in his bedroom where it belongs.]
It looks like the rabbits back home in Gusu.
[Curiously, looking at the folder and seeing him pulling the papers out]
[ He allowed himself a small smile - he had always liked giving Sizhui gifts, especially when he was small - and the easy delight was a welcome salve on his heart. ]
Documents of declaration.
[ He passed a small stack of them to Sizhui, and they were slightly more forthcoming than his father was. They were government paperwork declaring Lan Wangji as Sizhui's parent and guardian, and then another document that looked like a very short will, stipulating simply but clearly that if he should die or be ported out, everything he owned would be left to Sizhui. ]
[Sizhui took a sip of his coffee and reads the documents carefully. It's a lot of...legal mumbo-jumbo in small font, a document meant to be taken to this world's court, but he made out the most of it.]
So, basically its a statement to be recognized by the state.
[Now he gets it. It's a a thick document of many pages however. Sizhui deligently reads the other statement too, but it's a will just in case should anything happen to his father.
It's a serious matter that Sizhui doesn't take lightly.]
I see. What shall I inherited? In other words, what do you want me to do? I'll always inform uncle first, of course.
[Which is a sensible action to take should he ported or meet an untimely end.]
[ He nods at Sizhui's understanding of the first document. After all, the bond between them had been forged long before. This is solely so that the kinship they already felt between them was now a legal and acknowledged one, as long as they were here. ]
I have little, but it would be yours. Your duty to inform others if I am gone. Your duty to protect Zewu-jun, your peers, if I could not.
"Sizhui!! Are you there!?" Jingyi pounds on the door without any care for disturbing other people either in Sizhui's place or any other places nearby. He is dressed in modern clothing, just jeans and a light blue t-shirt and his headband, but he still is not inconspicuous. Not when he is being very loud on Sizhui's front step. "You have to be in there, because you are not anywhere else that I have checked!"
[Backdated to when Jingyi would have noticed 1) Sizhui was missing for his canon update and 2) Sizhui being back! but weird! (Which is immediately. He's immediately worried.) I know it's like a million years later for a backdate but just slot this in in the best spot for Sizhui to have Jingyi come pester him. :)]
Subtley is thy name Jingyi, and Sizhui is always welcoming to his best friend pestering. He needed his company right now, but he couldn't bear to bring the news. That unfortunately by the time he has arrived to his apartment, Sizhui has discovered that Jin Ling has gone home. He already contacted his father and uncle to report, so they are aware.
He was wearing normal civilian clothes too, a pair of denim jeans and a dark blue hoodie, and wearing the traditional headband. The door opens, and Sizhui peeked and then opens the door wider.
"Hello? Jing Yi, is that you? Oh, you came. I was about to call you. I was...ah, please come inside. I'll make tea."
"You are here!" Jingyi says as soon as he sees Sizhui open the door, and he comes inside almost before Sizhui has invited him, very obviously concerned. He peers into Sizhui's face and prods at his chest with a finger. Does Sizhui need a hug? What is the expression on his face? Is he hurt?
"I was worried! This is the second time you disappeared! What happened???? Are you alright????"
"I am here." Sizhui was...grieving and hurt. He usually carries an aura of being cheerful and bubbly, but his expression is now similar to Wangji's. Impassive. Stoic even. But he's really trying to steel his grief with calm. If Jingyi wanted to give him a hug, he would have welcomed it.
Calmly, "I am fine. I'm glad you are. Please, take a seat. I'll go make tea and then I'll explain. I got stuck. Portal glitch. Over the weekend, I returned back home."
Oh no, that's a terrible expression. His good look at his friend lets him see how...not-himself he appears. In Jingyi's experience, Sizhui looking like this only happens when something very bad has happened. His worry doubles and triples.
And Sizhui's words! He is too calm!
"I will sit after I do this!" He immediately wraps Sizhui in a hug and gives him a fierce squeeze. The word 'home' alarms him a great deal.
Sizhui’s residence, well past bedtime

White day gift
When it is answered, he steps inside.
He has two things with him, this time: a small stuffed rabbit (white) and a folder (brown).
He holds the bunny out for Sizhui first, and then goes to sit at the table, putting down the folder and opening it up, the paper work inside. ]
